Our Landscape Designers
HANNAH WARD HOWLAND
Hannah Ward Howland is a third-generation horticulturist. She inherited her passion for plants from her father and grandfather while growing up in their family-owned nursery and garden center in western Massachusetts. Hannah attended the horticulture program at the University of Maine in Orono, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree while concentrating in landscape design.
While this is her second season with Plants Unlimited, Hannah has been designing landscapes in Maine for the last seven years. She loves putting those skills to work while guiding clients to find the right plants for their projects. “I am especially passionate about finding new and modern ways to incorporate our Maine natives into designed landscapes” (per Hannah). Hannah resides in Friendship with her husband and their dog, Lilly. She enjoys spending time out in nature; hiking and birding with her family and working in her perennial, vegetable and cutting gardens.
Jason White has worked with Plants Unlimited for six years as a Landscape Designer – the last two years also being General Manager. He grew up in New Hampshire and began working in the landscaping field as a teenager. Jason graduated from the University of Maine in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Horticulture Design. He has experience working in residential and commercial landscaping from Connecticut to Maine.
Jason was awarded Young Nursery Person of The Year by Maine Landscape & Nursery Association in 2021 and is the Vice President of the Independent Garden Centers of Maine. “I take a lot of pride in helping our customers find that perfect plant here in the yard or making your dream house look even better through our Design & Consultation Services” (per Jason). Jason and his wife, who have two boys, have lived locally in the area for 10 years. He has always enjoyed playing sports, working with plants, and being outdoors. You can still catch him out on the field playing in local softball leagues!
We invite you to visit the Eliza Steele Memorial Garden at MacDougal Park on Broadway in Rockland. Jason prepared this special legacy garden design for the Rockland District Nursing Association. This park is open to the public. For more information, please visit: rocklanddistrictnursing.org/es-memorial-garden/
