The company was established in 1973 by our Founder and Chairman Rob Johnston, Jr. Johnny’s mission is helping families, friends, and communities to feed one another by providing superior seeds.

Their products include vegetable seeds, medicinal and culinary herb seeds and flower seeds.

Thompson & Morgan Seeds

The history of horticulture in the UK is bench-marked with names that have become famous. Among the companies that have founded the country's seed industry a few names still survive, although their independence has been surrendered. Yet, as one of the oldest firms in the business, Thompson & Morgan retains both its identity and its reputation for innovation and quality. It all began in a small garden behind a baker's shop in Tavern Street, Ipswich, tended by William Thompson, the baker's son. He started work by helping his father but, stricken with ill-health, he began studying botany and passionately cultivated the garden at the back of the shop in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. He was soon to acquire the name of the 'baker botanist'. From the back garden he moved to a nursery at the edge of Ipswich and then to an even larger one. Eventually there were three Thompson nurseries in the town and William began to publish a magazine called The English Flower Garden

Livingston Seeds

Livingston Seeds was founded in 1850 by Alexander Livingston. Alexander developed the first reliable tomato variety and as a result of his work, the tomato has become their most popular garden crop.

Hart Seeds

The Chas. C. Hart Seed Company was founded in 1892 by Mr. Charles C. Hart who had been connected with the Johnson & Robbins Company for fourteen years. He started a small consignment package seed business, using the back kitchen of his home as a packing room, warehouse, and office. At that time there were five seed firms in business in Wethersfield, this venture being the sixth.

Botanical Interest Seeds

Curtis and Judy met while waiting to interview for the same horticultural job and soon found they shared a boundless enthusiasm for gardening. Botanical Interests began out of their mutual passion and personal desire for better quality seed and more informational tools to help and inpire gardeners.

“We wanted a level of purity and quality that wasn’t easy to find,” recalls Curtis. So they searched out the highest quality seed available and began their business in 1995, in the spare bedroom of their Colorado home. The business objectives they established then still hold strong for them now: to inspire and educate gardeners; to provide high quality seed to their customers; and to create an enjoyable work place for employees.

Allen, Sterling and Lothrop

In 1911, Allen, Sterling & Lothrop opened a farm supply and seed store on Exchange Street in Portland, Maine, later moving to the triangle at Federal and Middle Streets. In 1969, urban renewal forced them to relocate on Route 1 in Falmouth.
